When our sweet foundation doe, Peace, was in the last month of her pregnancy in 2024, she did not look good. She could barely walk and we finally put her in a stall with a buddy so she wouldn't get jostled by the big herd. It's a good thing we did because for the last two weeks, she couldn't walk at all. We had to help her stand several times per day because she just couldn't get to her feet at all. As the days crept along, we really thought that we might be losing our precious matriarch.
In spite of her trouble, Peace kidded just as easily as ever -- and we didn't even realize she was in labor until one of the two legged kids came running to the house shortly after we finished chores with the news that Peace had three babies on the ground!
Sadly, her little buckling appeared to have been born dead, but the two doelings were strong and feisty!
After kidding, Peace's health gradually improved and she is now living a very healthy, happy retirement with her two doelings at her side. As for her daughters, they are likely going to stay right here forever!
Mercy is an absolute doll and we can hardly wait to see what she has in store for the future! She is bred to kid in April 2026!
